HISTORY OF LICI

Liberians In Columbus, Inc. (LICI) was incorporated as a charitable entity in the State of Ohio in 1986 by ERNESTINE C. FLEMISTER, RELDA SCOTT, and PATRICK BAWER. Its goals and objectives have been providing fellowship for Liberians away from the home country, promoting understanding and cooperation amongst Liberians and the interest in Africa, particularly in Liberia. Over the last thirty-two years, LICI has been operating under those goals. Notwithstanding, the membership had and continued to increase, the scope and operations of the organization have become more diverse, inclusive and the need to provide social services is increasingly demanding. The organization amended and adopted its Bylaws in 2006. The bylaws restrict elections and voting privileges to dues-paying members only. Electoral offices are limited to a two-year term. Board of directors provides oversight, while the elected executives (President, Vice President, Secretary, & Treasurer) manages the day-to-day operations of the organization. There are two standing committees, within the boards of directors, the Ways & Means and Audit Committees which assist with fundraising activities and financial oversight respectively
